Dental Swelling Essex – Emergency Dentist

There are many reasons for dental swelling and in all cases it is important to make sure you seek treatment. Our emergency dentist can look at all cases of dental swelling Essex and advise on the right course of treatment

Swollen Gums

Swollen gums are usually a result of infection from plaque and gum disease or from food becoming stuck in-between teeth. Gently brushing or flossing the affected area to try and dislodge any food that may be stuck or rinse the area with warm salt water may help. We suggest you seek an appointment with us as soon as possible to ensure it is nothing more serious.

Dental Abscesses

Abscesses are always serious because the infection may spread to other parts of the body and as such it is important you call us to arrange an appointment with our Emergency Dentist to look at the dental swelling immediately.

There are 2 different types of abscesses, gum abscess and tooth abscess:

Gum Abscess

We suggest you rinse your mouth several times a day with a mild salty-water solution. Use 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of boiled water. This may help draw the infection out and relieve pressure.

Even if the rinse seems to help, you should still make an appointment to come into the practice as soon as possible so that the dentist cancheck for infection or more serious issues.

Tooth Abscess

If the infection started inside a tooth we advise you come in and see us as soon as possible, as often you will need work on your teeth straight away to release the pressure and drain the infection. Following this additional work is often required to fix any damage.
